Opposing opinions: Trump
President of the people
The media has never fairly covered President Donald Trump and he was, and still is, upset by the fact that his communication is muddled by the biases of the news. Trump was so upset that he even re-popularized the term “fake news” that is used to refer to the biases of the media and has become part of America’s vocabulary.
It is because of these biases that favorable stories about Trump are not often reported.
One instance in which this bias was seen was when Trump had Infrastructure Week at the White House to focus on rebuilding America’s infrastructure. Trump layed out a plan that allowed states to better personalize their infrastructure to generate economic growth. During that same week, former FBI Director James Comey gave his testimony which was covered for days on end and left no air time for this progress being made in the White House. Other weekly programs that focused on the progression of the White House, such as Workforce Development Week and Tech Week, went virtually unnoticed.
Another time the media’s bias was apparent was when Trump was the Republican Nominee. He went to Baton Rouge to meet with the flood victims and assess their needs. The media somehow found a way to spin it, saying Trump was in the wrong. They commented that it wasn’t his place to go down and speak with the flood victims because that was the President’s job and he was just the nominee.
Because of this, Trump has come up with his own way to clear up the communication lines to the public: by tweeting. While some will say it’s unprofessional, it is one of the few ways that he can openly communicate with the public. It’s important that Trump uses Twitter to speak to the younger generation and speak freely to the American people. In doing so, he can get his intended message out and provide clarification for media reports.
Through his social media platforms, Trump is 100 percent himself. While he sometimes comes off as harsh he is being real. He has managed to create a strong social presence and his own unique character. He recognizes that he doesn’t do many things like past Presidents, even tweeting, “My use of social media is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL.” His tweets perfectly reflect his personality. This has humanized himself, and the position of the President, by him being sincere and transparent.
He is excited when we are, tweeting about the stock market hitting record highs saying, “Our FIFTH 1K milestone of 2017! #DOW24K #MAGA”. Likewise he shares our pain during dark moments tweeting, “We mourn the horrifying terrorist attack in NYC. All of America is praying and grieving for the families who lost their precious loved ones.”
In many ways Trump will have an impact on the presidents to come. He’s not the usual politician because he speaks his mind. It is crucial that people recognize the realness of Trump, which is refreshing to have Washington DC.
