3! 2! 1! Blast Off!

Homecoming weekend goes out of this world

This past week was spirit week, leading up to one of the most looked upon events for high school students: homecoming.

Themes ranged from Soccer Mom Monday to Wacky Sock Wednesday to Cool Dad Friday. Students and teachers alike arrived each day decked out in the themes. It’s a time where students can dress up in crazy attire without feeling judged.

“The appeal for me is being able to walk around with a cassette player blasting Whitney Houston and people being more okay with it than any other day of the year,” Senior Lexi Chizek said.

Then came the first official pep rally held on Friday. Shortened class periods were arranged in order to have this event. During the pep rally both the varsity cheer and dance teams performed. The annual football uniform relay occurred sparking many laughs and a victory for the seniors. Students from different sports and activities were recognized for their accomplishments this year thus far. The rally ended with the Millard North fight song being played by the pep band.

Once school let out students began to prep for the big game. At Buell everyone was decked out in hawaiian gear from leis to blow up palm trees. The game was a nail biter. The ball continually made its way down to the opposite end of the field putting Creighton Prep in the position to score, but luckily the Mustangs held them back winning the game 17-12.

The hype from the winning football game continued into Saturday for homecoming. Many students came out for the night to dance with their dates and friends. With the theme being outer space, Student Council decorated the gym the night before following that theme. It featured galaxy themed artwork and colorful lights to get the ambience of outer space.

“It was a good first homecoming. My favorite part was the cool lights,” Freshman Max Helm said.
