Forensics: Where you begin and where you go

A novice freshman begins his forensics career at the first novice tournament of the year

November 18, 2015

Public speaking is a skill that is very necessary both in school, and society alike. MN offers a class that equips students with very necessary public speaking skills that build confidence and strength when speaking. Students learn how to articulate ideas well, and speak proficiently to a group of people in any setting, whether formal or casual.

Freshman Rahul Guda already practiced strong speaking skills when he signed up for Forensics. Rahul, like all first year forensics competitors, got to participate in the first tournament of the season hosted by MN.

The birthday invitational tournament is only for novice competitors, and contains 3 full rounds of competition. It is not unlikely that nerves are relatively high for this tournament in particular, because it is the first competition of public speech for its competitors.

“I feel okay about it, it seems to be going well,” Guda said before the tournament.

Emotions are always up and down throughout the tournament, but Rahul did well to keep a positive, and confident attitude throughout. If he was nervous, it was greatly out shined by the handwork and talent exhibited in his rounds.

Rahul ended up placing first in extemporaneous speaking, proving only that success often comes with hard work in a particular craft. After the last round Rahul sums up his emotions in the only well articulated way he knows how.

“I am feeling great! We all feel very elated after a tiresome and exciting first tournament,” Guda said.

Future forensics competitions are in Rahul’s future, and his progress will continue to grow as he builds upon his skills and speech throughout the year
